As above I’ve found that on this website both Async JavaScript and Autoptimize are causing my minimal / hamburger menu to not work.

This happens on Desktop and phone, haven’t checked tablet.

When I click on the menu, rather than go to the page selected the URL in the browser has # added to the string, the page shifts down a little and then the menu’s no longer active.

ie example.com when I click on a page becomes example.com/#

Both plugins are causing this since if I switch just one off the problem’s still there, but with both off there’s no problem.

I’ve got these both running on other websites I’ve built with the same theme so I’m stumped

I’ve looked through the options but can’t see a difference between my settings across the websites

Have posted in both plugin forums to see whether it’s somehow related to just one of them.

I’ve left both on for now, so you might see the problem if you check.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

try excluding wp-content/themes/oceanwp/assets/js/main.min.js (or wp-content/themes/oceanwp/) from both Autopitmize & Async js AND make sure jQuery is excluded from being asynced/ deferred as well.

    hope this helps,
    frank

    Thanks for the suggestion Frank.

I excluded wp-content/themes/oceanwp/assets/js/main.min.js as you suggested in both plugins and that’s cured the menu problem but I’m still left with quite slow load speed of 2.9 sec

Another site with the same theme and plugins is achieving 0.8 sec so I must be doing something wrong!?!?

    Faster site
    https://hypnotherapyinpeterborough.co.uk.

    Here’s the comparison

    https://gtmetrix.com/compare/rEzSzIvC/wZkp3pR8

The only difference I can find is the slower site has the ConvertKit plugin but even when disabled the speed doesn’t drop below 2.9 so I don’t think that’s causing it to be slow.

I wondered whether you might see something I’m missing.

    Thank you

    convertkit indeed:

    That’s interesting.

I’ve just re-run gtmetrix both with the convertkit plugin active and disabled and got 3.2 sec active and 3.2s disabled, but when I deleted the plugin …
    .
    .
    .
    0.7 sec!

So it shows that just having the plugin’s code there was slowing the website down.

Thanks for pointing that out. I’d looked at the gtmetrix data but hadn’t interpreted that page correctly.

    That’s worth remembering.

I think I need to go back to the more simple, and quicker form that I was using before, as per your suggestion actually.

    thx again
