    Hello!

The price for my EN ebook automatically changed to the slightly higher price for the DE edition and it’s locked.

I can’t change anything in the ‘Product Data’ section!

The Error says: “This is a translation of Lily Bowers und der ungebetene Gast : E-Book. Some of the fields are not editable. It’s recommended to use the WooCommerce Multilingual products translator for translating products.”

I clicked on the link for “WooCommerce Multilingual products translator” and it was just a simple string translation with no price or ability to change anything but some text in the EN version.

I have a digital version of my book in 2 languages. So basically, it’s 2 different products with 2 different prices.

However, I want people to toggle if they want both versions or the EN instead of the DE or vice versa. This isn’t uncommon.

Is is not allowed to have a connected translation of different products with different prices?

Is this a misunderstanding and as soon as I connected the German version to the English version, it overrode the price and locked those changes because they’re ‘connected’?.

This would make sense but then my question is: HOW can I allow people to toggle between various languages of my books?

    Thank you,
    Jess

    Hi @jesslohm,

Generally speaking, the purpose of a translation is to show the same content as the original, but in a different language. And the price could be considered as part of the content, so it’s not supposed to be changed in this “translation” process.

As a workaround, you can temporarily disable WooCommerce Multilingual to change the price in the translation (using the native WP editor).

But note that as soon as you will change the price in the original product, the price will also be synchronized in the product translations.

The other alternative is to use multi-currencies (see WCML doc) so that you can set a different price for each currency (10 EUR and 5 GBP for instance) and you can enforce the currency by language or by country.

HOW can I allow people to toggle between various languages of my books?

You need to add a language switcher, please check this documentation.

    Thank you, strategio!

Yeah, I think I’ll have to set these up as separate documents and not connect them with the multilanguage woocommerce. This will not be user-friendly though. The flag will disappear and I can only link the German book as a cross-sell on the bottom, which is OK, just not the perfect solution.

It’s not the currency I want to change. Everything will stay in EUR no matter who’s buying it, so I guess I can’t use that wcml doc for that workaround.

    Thanks for the clarification.

At least I know it’s not possible to do what I want to do and I don’t have to spend any more time trying to figure it out…

Maybe something for your developers: to make it possible to change the product data on each individual page, regardless of the connected languages. ??

    Thank you!
