The Reply to comments option is no longer working

    I first posted in the WordPress support section, however, I’ve now realized that my issue has to do with the latest Yoast update.

    I just didn’t realize that my problem was related to Yoast until I updated yesterday the plugin to the latest version on one of my other sites as well, following which the issue occured there too. So now I disabled this one plugin on both sites and now I can comment again directly under another person’s comment.

    Is there anything that can be done about this issue? Sadly for me not being able to reply to other comments is pretty big.

    • Does the issue occur while using the default 2017 theme?
    • Does the issue occur while using the latest WordPress version?
    • Does the issue occur while all the non-Yoast plugins are disabled?
    • Do you see any errors while trying to reply a comment?

    It occurs with two different (premium) themes on two different blogs. Yes latest WP version. I only disabled the Yoast plugin, and the reply to comment option was working again. No errors. If you click on the link I provided above, you can experience the problem yourself. Basically the url for the date under the comment is identical with the url for the reply. When I click on it, it just jumps down to the next comment.

    Btw, I’ve realized that my issue is pretty much the same with another one detailed earlier at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/replytocom-removal-breaks-wp-touch-pro-nested-comments/ (haven’t tested it on mobile myself, but it’s the non-responsive error for the desktop computers that the people in that thread are all talking about).

    There’s an open feature request for the concern you just mentioned — https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/9226

    It is under review by the development team with regards to the replytocom variable feature.

    Since there is no further reply, setting to resolved.

    I’ve just released a plugin that addresses this issue (using the method suggested by Yoast above but avoiding the need to modify functions.php or create a child theme).

    I suggest that this is still a temporary fix, but it should get your functionality back while you investigate other comment options.
