The response is not a valid JSON response when trying to save settings
-
Hello,
When I try to update the settings in the plug-in, I get the notion;
“The response is not a valid JSON response”What can we do about it?
Already tried deactivating and activating the plug-in, but that doesn’t help.
Thanks in advance!

Hi @marjons,
Could you please reach out to your hosting provider and have them enable all HTTP methods and see if it helps?
Thank you for your answer. I’ll ask them about it.
In the mean time here are the details from the site installation. Maybe that helps already to find out what could be the problem?

Hi @marjons, thanks for sending your site info. May I know if you’ve heard back from your hosting provider about the HTTP methods?
Hi, yes I have, today actually.
It appears that the http method “OPTIONS” is disabled within the DirectAdmin. They say that it’s not being used within standard shared hosting and advised to remove the iThemes Security plug-in.
There seems to be no way to use the plug-in within this shared hosting environment, so I think I’ll need to follow that advice, since I cannot change any settings. It’s just the way it is then…
Hmmm, weird. According to DirectAdmin 10/21/19 Version 1.59.2 release notes:
Support http OPTIONS method
We’ve now added support for the OPTIONS method, which is essentially just an alias to HEAD for the time being, unless other controls are needed.
Hmm, maybe the host changed this setting only in their hosting environment?
Hi @marjons, another customer here uses a shared hosting but was able to enable the
OPTIONS
method: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/error-405-response-json-invalid-when-install/#post-15905721. Would you mind relaying this to your hosting provider? Hope this helps!Hi, i have the same problem, but I have free hosting, supported methods: GET HEAD POST OPTIONS. what if I need to return the ability to edit installed theme? I understand that simply deleting your plugin will not work without any loss?
Hi, well, our hosting company advised against turning it on due to security reasons. I want to follow their advice, because it feels a bit weird to change a setting that could cause security problems for a security improvement plug-in.
Also, now I’ve deleted the iThemes Security plug-in, and installed the Wordfence plug-in as an extra security layer on their advice.
But thanks anyway to thinking along and your advice!
