• I created a new page. Assigned it the “Front Page” template from the Page Attributes.

I am totally lost. the Title, News, Page, Widget. Portfolio Front are in the Theme Section of the Customizer. When you make changes, nothing happens. Furthermore the “New Page” I created is not showing up as the home page. is it supposed to?

Where is the “Front Page template” these directions speak of?

    What am I doing wrong?

And in the Cuistomizer you have under “Static Front Page” a dropdown list containing About, Contact, Mailing List, Media News Photos, Tour, Videos. These are pages I created. The page I newly created (called New Page) was set to “Front Page” In the page editor.
However I can select one of these other pages in this dropdown. Lets say I select “contact” to be “Front Page from here.

    THEN
when I got to the Pages section All Pages, I see Front Page in bold type after the page “Contact”

    AND
When I go to my “New Page” it is listed as being the “front Page”.

When you hit the home button (logo type in upper left) the system favors the page selected in the Customizer.

Hmm, something just clicked the whole thing on. Might have been a mis-setting in the page options. Now I’m trying to understand Portfolio. Setting up a page as a “portfolio” template produces a page that says “No Project Found”.I have uploaded images in the Add Media area and have them in the Uploaded to this page tab. What next to get them on the page other than importing them directly on the page. Or is this the way you are supposed to do it? Thanks for any help.

Hi there, sorry you’ve had some trouble setting up Harmonic, it is a bit complex.

There is a setup guide for the front page here that you might find helpful:

    https://harmonicdemo.wordpress.com/front-page-setup/

Sounds like you’re mostly there now, except for portfolios, is that right?

To add new portfolio projects, the first thing you’ll need to do is to activate the Custom Content Types module the in Jetpack plugin.

Once you do that, you’ll see a new item in your dashboard called Portfolios, where you’ll be able to add new portfolio projects.

You can then display the portfolio section on your front page if you like, and you’ll also have an automatically generated portfolio archive page at yoururl.com/portfolio

If you need more help, would you be able to provide a link to your site so I can have a look directly? Thanks!

    Hi Kathryn,

There is no mention of Jetpack in any of the documentation.
    Where did you find that?

Can someone please define “page content section on the scrolling page”
The way this site works, this could be anything.
You have 1,2 3 pages scrolling at once. Confusing

Below I cut and pasted from the help page you sent: And i was trying to understand that page BTW. omg,

    The Sections Explained
The Front Page Template features five sections:
    (Wheres ………”the template”? )

Title: Displays your site’s title and tagline. If you opt for a Site Logo, it will be displayed instead of the site title.
(There is no place to upload a logo in the customizer [as per instructions], are they aware of that?).

    News: Displays your latest posts.
(News from where? How do you configure it?, This is the middle page of the scrolling pages? confusing)

Page: Displays the page title and content from the Front Page Template.
(Where is the Front Page Template? You can set a “Page” as a front page in either the “Pages” edit section OR In the customizer Static Front Page pull down. Confusing. You can have ALLL of your pages set to front page. huh? Will the real front page please stand up.

Widgets: A special widget area only displayed on the front page.
(wait a minute, The “front Page” is just a giant image, no widgets. Widgets on appear on the Non Front page pages, correct? At least with what I’m seeing…
    argh…..

Portfolio Front: If you have a portfolio, your most recent projects are displayed here.
(I have uploaded images to the media library and attempted to do all sorts of group etc. As per the instructions, it also says to “go to Settings → Writing → Your Custom Content Types and checking the “Portfolio Projects” . Well, there is not a “your Custom Content Types” selection in the section. This is crazy!)

    Thanks for any clarity

Q: what does jetpack actually do? Is it scrapping other backend information?

Says my site needs to be publicly accessible to use jet pack. I’ve got an htaccess file for login cuz the site is not live yet.

As I mentioned in your other thread, Jetpack is a plugin that brings many of the most popular features of WordPress.com to self-hosted sites. Some features (like site logos) are built in, and other features (like Custom Content Types for portfolios) need you to activate a specific module.

This section displays your latest blog posts, which you add in the Posts section of your dashboard.

The Front Page Template features five sections:
    (Wheres ………”the template”? )

Once you’ve set up your site to use a static front page, go to the page you selected to be the front page and assign the Front Page template to it from the Page Attributes box.

This is what it should look like:

Edit Page Harmonic 1 0 4 by Automattic WordPress

Can someone please define “page content section on the scrolling page”

The “Page” content refers to the content you add to the page you’ve selected to be your static homepage.

(wait a minute, The “front Page” is just a giant image, no widgets. Widgets on appear on the Non Front page pages, correct? At least with what I’m seeing…

Any widgets you add to the Front Page Widgets area will appear in the Widget section on the front page:

Portfolio Front: If you have a portfolio, your most recent projects are displayed here.

The Jetpack Custom Content Types module needs to be active to add portfolios. Once the module is active, you will see a new item called Portfolios in your dashboard, and that’s where you can add your portfolio projects.

Says my site needs to be publicly accessible to use jet pack. I’ve got an htaccess file for login cuz the site is not live yet.

My colleague suggested dropping the .htaccess block and using this plugin instead:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/registered-users-only/

That should allow you to use Jetpack while the site’s in development.

A quick question, Kathryn: In the footer bar of the site, there is a navigation menu which leads to the different sections of the Front Page. Can I configure the Primary Navigation menu to do that? Like I want to link to the Biography section, but not from the menu on the top, not the one on the bottom.

    Nevermind, I got it working.

Thanks for patiently helping with my issues Kathryn. Q: does JetPack automatically get installed with the theme? This might have gotten turned off without realizing is was a theme mandate in the beginning. When you are testing themes and trying to maintain a vanilla system, things happen.
