The Tag Manager module cannot be set up as it has not been activated yet.

Thanks for reaching out. I can see this error within the codebase although I’ll need to check this further to determine how to recreate. It may be related to a view only version of the Site Kit dashboard. So we can determine more on this please share the following:

1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
2. Are you logged into your site with the same WordPress administrator account used it initially set up Site Kit, or have you made any changes to your administrator profile?

Once we have the above we can provide some troubleshooting suggestions. This may include resetting the plugin or performing checks with only Site Kit active using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. Hopefully we can then determine the cause.

Hey @jamesosborne – thanks for getting back to me.

Looks like it was a false alarm, albeit with a weird user flow that could do with being looked into…

I went to my Site Health page to get the details for you. On that page – and only that page – there was a notice from Site Kit saying that I needed to re-authenticate Site Kit.

I went through the process and this time it was trying to add permissions to access Tag Manager (woohoo). I completed the authentication, at which point I was redirected to my Site Kit dashboard. I then went to the Site Kit settings page where I was informed that I needed to finish setting up GTM. Clicked through, selected the container, etc and – job’s a good un’! I’m all hooked up now.

If the notice telling me I needed to re-authenticate had appeared on the Site Kit page that would have made a lot more sense.

Still, all fixed up now. Thanks again!

Many thanks for the update @carlsitback. Glad to hear all is working as expected now. Based on your comments it does sounds like you were somehow disconnected from Site Kit. In most cases there is a warning at the header of your wp-admin screen when this happens, so I can’t be sure why this didn’t appear in your case. I wonder were you disconnected at the time you were adding Tag Manager.

I also spoke to the team regarding this error. Should this occur once more we may be able to determine the cause if you can share any failed https requests or your error logs. Do let us know if you happen to encounter the same.
