Since the last update, which happily incorporates BlueSky compatibility (thanks Joe!), we’ve seen a change in the way the Xposter field works. On the one hand, all the tweets written in WordPress posts from years ago have been deleted, which I think is great, because it must have been a relief for the database, although I’d like to ask if they have really been deleted or maybe they’re just not visible (it would be ideal if they were deleted).

On the other hand, when you save a draft, everything written in Xposter is deleted. There’s no problem if you directly publish your post, since it is sent to Twitter, Mastodon and BlueSky, but if, for example, you schedule a WordPress post for a date, as soon as you save it in WordPress, everything in Xposter disappears, so when the scheduled post is published, the post does not reach the social networks.

I’m not totally sure what you’re referring to; do you mean the custom post text field?

Looking at the code, I’m reasonably confident that’s what you’re referring to. But if you mean something else, please let me know.

Hi Joe! Sorry if I didn’t explain myself well.

I’m referring to the space where you write the text that is later sent to social networks, that is, the Xposter box in WordPress.

Until the update, all the text in this box was saved, but now when you save a draft, or even click publish, everything is deleted. Therefore, if you click directly on the WordPress publish button, and you have just filled out the Xposter section, your text is published on social networks, but all this text is deleted from the Xposter box. On the other hand, if you schedule the publication for a later date, nothing is published.

In short: everything you put in Xposter, when you save a draft, is deleted.

So, it’s not deleted – it’s just not being displayed in the box. It will only get deleted if you save the post again when the box is empty. This is a bug, however, for sure, and I’ll get it fixed.

So I’m not sure why scheduling publication for later would be a problem with this unless you’re editing the post somewhere in between without filling in the custom update and the default status update template is blank, so that there’s no default. Because the custom template is not required at all to post an update; it’s just a way to customize the text on a per-post basis.

In your case, are both of those things true? That you are frequently editing a post after scheduling it for publication & that your default template is empty?

    Hi Joe,

First of all, I can confirm that it is now working correctly with the new update.

And about what you are asking me, I cannot confirm! At NextN we have many editors, and the report they gave me is that a schedule did not send the tweet/post to social networks. I started to investigate and saw that those in WordPress did not have text in Xposter, I tried to save one and saw that it was deleted, and then I checked old WordPress posts and saw that they were all empty. But, I just checked those old posts and I see that they all have their records in the Xposter box.

It is very likely that it was what you say, that it was simply “invisible”.

I like much better how it is now organized with the update, by the way, it looks clearer. Thank you very much for everything Joe!

Thanks, @alias79! I appreciate that you’re liking the reorganization.

And thanks for confirming the update fixed your issue. I appreciate that with large environments, it’s sometimes impossible to know whether updates happened in the intervening time…
