The uploader changed my filenames!!

  • I am uploading images and building some pages in WordPress. I just changed the setting ‘Store uploads in month/year-based folders’ so that it is off; all uploads will now be stored in the main uploads directory.

    Unfortunately, now the uploader does something unwanted. Where before, it might upload a photo to /wp-content/uploads/2012/09/foo-450.jpg, now it uploads to/wp-content/uploads/foo-450-e1348273047120.jpg! Note the changed file name.

    Is there a reason for this, and how can I disable this behavior for the future?
