How about a warning for a double up when entering SKUs for products. Instead of WC making it’s own decision to place a sku that is an old one or from a previous version of the product, or using the sku from the mother in a variable product.

When you save WC justs figures out it’s own solution and doesn’t give any warning. Check out magento, there is a warning, I used it in the warning message in this Topic Title

You don’t find the problem until someone notices it.

Seeing as all of the products are reliant on a unique sku it would help if you had a warning.

    thanks … Rick

    Hi @nqtrees

WooCommerce does indeed include a warning for duplicated SKUs:

The steps I followed to generate this error were I created a new product and used the SKU of an existing product. When I attempted to publish the new product, the SKU field was left blank and the above warning message was generated.

If you are not seeing that behavior, could you please let me know the steps you are following and I can attempt to reproduce it locally.

We will be standing by for your response.

    Thanks!

    thanks for the reply,

My problem is with variable products and variations.

When i create a variable product and make a duplicate mistake for the sku on one of the variations, it accepts the sku and then when you save, it changes the sku you have entered to the mother sku.

If you are correcting a mistake on a variation sku, it will accept the new sku and you can save it. If that new sku you have entered is a duplicate sku, it will change the sku back to the original one.

How about a warning as soon as you add the Sku that is a duplicate so that you don’t go all the way through.

    Hi @nqtrees

    Thanks for your reply.

My problem is with variable products and variations.

When i create a variable product and make a duplicate mistake for the sku on one of the variations, it accepts the sku and then when you save, it changes the sku you have entered to the mother sku.

I was able to replicate this on my test site, when using variable products, so I will test this further and file an issue with the developers.

In the meantime, as a workaround, it may be helpful to use another third party plugin to help manage SKUs to avoid them being left blank.

There are a few SKU generator plugins available here:
