  • I did a clean install and it failed. No upgrade never used it before and it failed.

Well, this sounds like my solution is near at hand. I have just upgraded to 2.6 and the links to my individual posts have broken. This is a link from my main page to one of the posts listed on that page:

    https://www.soundunreason.com/InkWell/index.php/2008/07/12/bring-out-yer-dead/

It does not work. Neither does it work to remove the index.php from the URL.

This is true for any post link from the main page:

    https://SoundUnReason.com/InkWell

    Any suggestions for me?

(I am using PHP5, MySQL, and Windows 2003 with IIS.)

Problem with 2.6 too. Mine is i cant log in the admin panel. Message when i tried is this:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 223115 bytes) in /home/ysamphyc/public_html/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 4

Any suggestion? Been a couple of days already!!! Thx in advance.

edde – Not exactly. It merely brings up the main page (not the linked page). If you scroll down you see you are on the main page still. You can confirm this (odd) behavior by clicking on a different linked post and changing the slash to a question mark you will still see the Bring Out Yer Dead post at the top.

Hi guys, anyone have help for me??

Upgraded from WP last year version to 2.6 and get this:
    thelreport.net

Just did automatic upgrade and lost my site..I get this message when trying to follow instructions of manually DELETING Wp Marquee and Gregarious and Tag Warrior plugins:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare is_tag() (previously declared in /home/thelrepo/public_html/wp-includes/query.php:103) in /home/thelrepo/public_html/wp-content/plugins/UltimateTagWarrior/ultimate-tag-warrior.php on line 2426

Update: Now the site won’t load..simply takes me to login but wont login..just refreshes

    ??

    Thanks so much Edde,

First one to help me ??
However that is not my problem I am assuming because I get error message. I login fine and then click View Site on dashboard and it redirects me to login in. Entering the url also simply asks me to login. How do I fix this? I did what that link you put says anyway just in case..no luck

edde – I see. Thanks for this. At least I know what’s going on. I hope 2.6.1 comes out quickly.

Anyone know if there is a temporary fix for those of us running IIS? (The link @edde provided only offers a temporary fix for Linux/Apache.)

@elements: according to the error message, the UltimateTagWarrior plugin is still alive and kicking. If you did remove it (?!) make sure you empty all cache: (wp-cache/super cache, browser cache,…)

As stated somewhere by Otto42, in other words, but: why not really get rid of UltimateTagWarrior? Disabling a plugin (since tags are a part of wordpress now) is always a good idea. From a performance point of view.

If you didn’t already do so; I’d re-upload all new WordPress files and make sure you’re actually looking at what you think you’re looking at: (BACKUP FIRST!)

    • Delete your old wp-includes and wp-admin directories
    • Copy the new WordPress files to your server, overwriting old files in the root. You may use FTP or shell commands to do so. Note that this means *all* the files, including all the files in the root directory as well.

See: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress and stick to it to the letter. It helped me out in the past.

    Edde

This is my 6th upgrade ever since switched to wordpress. For the first time I had a problem in the backend (login page and admin panel) css formatting which is all gone.

    https://go-blog.ozar.net/wp-admin/

I don’t understand why. I’ve been crawling every other thread in the forums as well as Google. I hear about couple of others having the same problem but never with a resolution.

I’m sure I followed the upgrade procedures, before the problem occurred. After the problem, I reuploaded the WordPress 2.6 files overwriting everything (except wp-config.php). Still doesn’t work. What’s funny, every other thing is working perfectly on the blog.

    Any ideas?

Edde? You’re my last hope (I read how many dozens of people you helped ;).

After login page, the admin cannot show up. The site display is OK, but I cannot do anything about my site. Can anyone find a solution for this “fatal” problem?
    Many Thanks!

@maclord: hehe, dozens? Well, you’ve got my attention. ??

I’ve found (also with previous upgrades) that just uploading the new files, overwriting the old ones (and I checked the FTP-client settings: it was set to overwrite!) sometimes is NOT the same as removing the wp-includes and wp-admin directories and uploading the new ones. Really, I can’t explain, but it has helped me in the past. Maybe it’s just my browser acting up, but following the instructions to the letter and removing the directories instead of overwriting them seems to work.

@ Edde – Thanks for pointing me to this https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/189058

I do have a windows based setup and sure enough once I added the ‘category base’ and ‘tag base’ my broken permalinks started working fine (which broke after upgrading to 2.6).

However, I feel that folks who are running this great piece of software on Windows are somehow less able to take advantage of all its great features since help for Linux based setup is seemingly more available. Even on the WP Support Pages.

Anyhow, Is there is way to get rid of ‘index.php’ from permalinks on Windows/IIS and to make the links really pretty. i.e https://www.wp.com/blog/check-this-out.

I tried https://tech.einaregilsson.com/2007/07/30/pretty-wordpress-permalinks-on-iis/ to no avail, as it was perhaps intended to work with older version of DB/WP Code.

Any advise would be highly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Scharique
