The “Visual” tab in my post editor is disabled, however, the “Disable Visual Editor” box is not checked under personal options on my profile. I haven’t updated my site since December and when I tried to create a post last night, I noticed that the Text tab is the only one that I’m able to choose, yet I don’t want to work in that view — I need the Visuals tab so that I can access the two rows of controls. Any assistance that anyone can provide would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thanks for such a quick response. Actually, I haven’t done any of those. I’m not a tech wizard…I had someone else build the blog for me a little over a year ago. All I basically do now is go in and make my posts. I’m afraid to get in there and start mucking around because I may break something. I’ve tried getting in touch with him but so far have had no success. Its frustrating because I’m ready to get super active with my website again and now I can’t even post. ??

I’m sorry but we do not have any magic bullets for you. If you cannot manage to troubleshoot this yourself, perhaps you need to consider hiring someone to carry out the work for you?

Gee, wasn’t necessarily looking for a ‘magic bullet,’ just a hopeful step in the right direction. Thanks for your help.

The steps I posted above are just the start of basic troubleshooting. There is nothing more basic than that.
