• Hi, since I renewed my host before a week ago the website started doing some weird things. First, the speed decreased significantly when I use cache plugins (I know that is another topic), then it started returning the basic look of the webpage. For example, changed the custom width of the pages to their default one. The sidebar and footer also returned to their default look. And some other customizations.

I don’t know is it connected, but when I try to edit in theme editor it shows me this: Something went wrong. Your change may not have been saved. Please try again. There is also a chance that you may need to manually fix and upload the file over FTP.

I deactivated all plugins, but the problem is not there.

    I use:
    -Cloudflare

Can you please tell where the problem can be and how to fix it? Thank you!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Did you experience some downtime due to missing the renewal or something? It’s possible the host took your site down then when you renewed they had to rebuild with their last good backup which might have been dated.

Else, I think I’d be looking at my file dates to see if the host broke things and had to recover the site from a backup. It’s also possible that file permissions were changed.

    Or an update went bad.

I’d probably first call my host and talk with them… mention the apparent slow response issues also.

    Then read over this article…

Error Related to Plugin or Theme Conflict

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Let us know if you require more assistance and If you need me to take a deeper look at the site itself via the URL then you might want to disable CloudFlare’s proxy for a bit by turning off the orange cloud in your CloudFlare DNS settings. That way I can take a look at the site itself. Sometimes just ‘looking’ helps and I have certain tools that tell me technical stuff.

Do not disclose any login info to us (we can’t accept it) or such but you can carefully post debug output if needed.

Also, remember turning the CloudFlare proxy off turns off the inherent protections provided by that proxy. I’d not do that unless I needed to or my site started throwing 500 errors due to the origin server’s response.

Do keep the CloudFlare DNS service… it’s one of the best DNS services out here. And if you can run the proxy then you should once any problems are dealt with. I’m a firm believer in CloudFlare.

I didn’t experience any downtime. I asked my host for any problems, broke things and so on. They said everything was ok. File dates are not changed. Now they updated the PHP and cleared the cache, also without result.
I tried Health Check and your other recommendations, but still the same issues on the default themes.

I turned off the orange cloud in DNS if you could please take a look.
