Thematic child widget content not displayed

I am using a child theme of the Thematic theme. I have have placed a widget in a new widget area in the header. The output is created but it is enclosed in comments in the HTML and therefore not visible in the browser. The output is displayed in other widget areas without any problems.

Any ideas please?
