Hi first let me say I love the looks of this theme and the simplicity of it, I left great review soon after activating it. I just have one concern well major bug for me. When I activate the child theme it’s breaks the style of the parent theme. What I mean by that is if I activate the child theme the sidebar changes sides all my text and styling is off, my logo disappears it just seems very odd that’s it’s behaving that way, I’ve used many child themes but I’ve never run across an issue quite like this, I hope someone can help me.

I really like this theme I hate to lose it over a child theme error.

I’ve tried making a new child theme with just the style.css but I get same results… Any idea of what might be happening would be highly appreciated..

    Thanks
    Fish

  • I wanted to follow up….How WordPress works is that when you activate a new theme, regardless if it’s a child theme or not, it sees it as a new theme activation. However, I need to clarify what is happening for you because I just did a test with my local site and installed the theme plus the child theme for it and did not experience a problem. It sounds like you had setup your site, did some custom things, made some changes to the options, and then after you activated the child theme and then everything was gone?

Hi thank you for responding, I have the theme on two site with the same results, I have made no custom css changes because I can’t get it to take effect, when I try to add custom CSS the style goes back to normal…

Any ideas I will include a screen shot.

    Update;
I tested this on my localhost server with the same exact results, the theme had no customization made, I kept the default logo, the second I activated the child theme the theme broke in the same manner? I really need use of this theme and more importantly the child theme.

I’m not saying this is a theme related bug but I have no idea why this is happening to me on three different sites and two different servers?

Any ideas as to a possible fix I’m willing to try.

    Thanks
    Fish

Can you check your image links? You seem to have put the same image twice.

Thanks for catching that for me,,

The first links is with the parent activated. No custom css or editing done to any files.
    https://private.xcurrent.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Selection_001.png

The second link is the same site with the child activated. Again no custom css or editing has been done.
    https://private.xcurrent.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Screenshot-from-2014-11-18-014219.png

The third link is the theme as default tested on a Xampp server.

I seem to be the only person with this issue so obliviously it’s not a theme bug but I’m fresh out of ideas, I’ve tried everything I can think of to fix this issue with no luck whatsoever. I tried with no plugins, I changed to 2010 default and made a child theme that worked fine, I even tried to make a new child theme for Luminescence Lite theme with just the style.css file and still the same exact results..

I’m close to having a small stroke, I hope someone can help me troubleshoot this issue.

    Again thanks for responding.

Looking at your screenshot, it’s seems that child theme can’t load the style.css from parent theme. Please go to style.css of child theme and check this line

    @import url('../luminescence-lite/style.css');

May be there is space after url and (

And please post the first 30 lines of style.css of child theme.

Thanks again for responding and I hate to be a pain in the “you know” but the child theme seems to be correct, it’s right out of the box, below is a screen shot of the childs style.css from within the admin panel editor.

This really puzzling me because for one “I seem to be the only person dealing with this issue”, two I have tried everything I can think of short of asking my magic 8-ball!

Again I have tested a fresh installation on my xampp stack and my paid server. I refuse to give up on this theme because in my opinion it’s one of the best themes out as far as simplicity of navigation and style.

I’m open to any suggestions. If the theme author or developers would like to take a peep at my admin panel and or cpanel feel free to ask…

    Thanks again

    Hi
Well it’s been a big head ache trying to resolve this issue I guess I’ll have to abandon this theme to avoid having a stroke. Again thanks for the free theme it’s still a great theme in my opinion it just won’t work for me and me alone…

    Thanks for your time,
    Fish

Hi Fish…I just tested this theme out a second time and using the child theme but I had no issues. So here are a couple things to consider trying out before you change to a different one…

    1. Disable all plugins and then try the theme
    2. If you are using a css minified version, this could also cause issues for some themes.

I just went to your xcurrent.org site and see the theme is still active but it looks like it’s running fine, although is that the parent theme running?

    (@fish911)

Hi again thanks for taking the time to help assist me.

Yes that was the parent theme running, for the time being I just switched themes until I can do some testing on my xampp server to see if I can locate the source of my problem. I’m positive it’s just something to do with my settings what I don’t have a clue so I will go back through my troubleshooting steps one by one and let you know the results.

As for anybody viewing this thread this is one great theme please don’t be discouraged by the issues I’m facing. I’m not abandoning this theme I’m just insuring it works 100% with my personal settings, I will switch back to this theme the second I get this working with my setting on my home server.

Step no.1, I will download and install a fresh version of WP ,
Step no.2, I will activate the theme with no plugins to see if I’m still getting the same results.

Conclusion: This will probably fix my problems as it’s the only thing I’ve yet to try. I have done everything short of installing a new version of WP, I’ve already tried disabling plugins etc, clear cache then disabled the w3 total cache plugin with no luck.

    Best of luck!
    Fish
