I have a complex site but my theme is not doing its job anymore. I need a custom theme but absolutely cannot afford to hire anyone (and I don’t find anyone willing to help).
So my only option would be to write the theme by myself but I’m not a coder and still need to retain many things of the current theme.
My question is: is there a theme builder, something like VisualComposer that works with modules and not by adding plugins? Not drag’n’drop but something like an Underscore theme and then build pieces of code on top of it.
It’s a dum question I know, I might get no solution… I just don’t know where to turn to.

I reckon it ain’t possible to create a theme without being a developer. Fool me I was hoping I could make it. ?)

You can simply overwrite the existing graphical files with your own design, it’s really not that hard to pull off.

@debby, recycling the layout/CSS is the first difficulty I’m having. It cannot be done when there are dependencies with scripts. Therefore one must rewrite from scratch.

After doing some research, maybe the answer to this thread I opened is to use something like TemplateToaster. But due to the complexity of the logic behind my site, I think I need to go the “start-from-scratch” path anyway.
So, my first question: is it mandatory to use a framework (Redux, Bootstrap, etc.)? Is it the first thing I need to install?
Also, I don’t understand what a “bootstrap theme” is. A dashboard that substitutes the default WP one?

I just was wondering if one could take a starter theme, and then build a site via plugins. For instance adding membership plugins, CPT plugins, etc. so to rebuild my current theme funcionality.
