[Theme: Circumference Lite] Featured Photo Showing Up Twice

Anyway, I believe I understand what you are experiencing, so I will try my best to detail what is happening and hopefully how to solve it.

I designed this theme to give the user two choices of displaying blog post summaries:

1. content method (allows you to insert your Read More where you want)
2. excerpt (allows you to use an excerpt or custom excerpt

Excerpts in WordPress strips all HTML formatting, including images, so then your post summary is basically text only. This theme when using the excerpt method, does display the Featured image in the summaries, but can also show up on the full single post view. This theme has an option setting that lets you disable the featured image from that single full view. Perfect if you have an image inserted in the first part of your post article…which won’t show in the excerpt, but does in full view. To find the option setting to disable the featured image from the full single view:

Go to Appearance >> Customize >> Basic Settings >> Hide Full Post Featured Image, then check the box. This will hide the featured image from this page so you can have your own images in the post (and not have them show in the blog summary excerpt.

Thanks for the reply! The “Hide full post featured image” box was already checked. I tried unchecking it and checking it again, and nothing changed. The featured image still shows up twice in my excerpts.

Also, I want to clarify what I’m trying to do. On my blog page, I’d like to show excerpts WITH images (if possible). Like you said above, excerpt mode strips my posts of the images inside of the post and leaves me with excerpts without any images. I thought setting a featured image would solve this (giving me post summaries AND images). But whenever I set a featured image, the image shows up twice (even after I delete the image from inside of the post).

I hope that makes sense, and I will be sure to include all future posts in the support section.

Even when that “Hide Full Post Featured Image” is checked in the options, it still shows up on your full post view? That is odd because I just tested this locally. Do you have any kind of cache plugin or host cache setup? It almost sounds like there is a cached version of the page still showing. If all checks out, is there a way I can log into your admin to see what is happening?

When “hide full post featured image” is checked, the featured image does not show up in my full post view, but my issue is with the excerpt view. The featured image still shows up twice in my excerpt view even when “hide full post featured image” is checked, and even when I’ve deleted the image from within the post). Does that make sense?

I totally understand…but it’s puzzling because it works for me when I test it locally. I set the options to “Excerpt”, check the box to hide the featured image on the full post. Then I made a post with a featured image, as well, I inserted an image at the beginning of the post. Everything works fine….it’s almost as though something is being missed somewhere, so if possible, may I have access to your admin? If so, please contact me HERE with a username and password.

Also, is there a particular post that you can show me what is happening?

I double checked that “hide featured image” and “excerpt” were clicked, and they were. So far, it happens for every post that I set a featured image for. I set a featured image for my most recent post, so that you can see it shows up twice.

Thanks Trea for the info you emailed me, as well, giving me the chance to see your double featured image. This helped me realize it looks like it’s related to your Auto Excerpt Everywhere plugin because when I look at the second image in your post, it has a class that is added:

“autoexcerpt_thumb”

This tells me that your plugin is putting this in, so you may want to look into your plugin settings and change it from the Large thumbnail to “None” and see if that works.

That did it! I forgot that plug-in was even active.
