• Very ‘newbie’ question: Where did the theme content go?
    1. You see a lovely theme: say twenty-fourteen as seen on its ‘live demo.’ It’s full of lovely example content of all kinds.
    2. Using cPanel/Softaculous you install it on your website
    3. The content of what you actually get is nada – almost completely empty, so different from the beautiful ‘live demo’ that you’re becoming bewildered.
    4. Full of enthusiasm, you go to wp-admin and select ‘customize’ to make your page just like the ‘live demo.’
    5. The ‘customize’ context bears little identifiable relation to the content of the ‘live demo’ and your bewilderment is complete.

Help: how the heck do I make my site anything like the lovely live demo?
If I’m supposed to supply almost all the content myself what’s the point of using WordPress in the first place? Yeah, yeah, there’s a database and menu items and editor but…
Isn’t there some kind of template – complete with content – that comes with each theme, that I can change, one item at a time, instead of having to provide all the initial items from scratch?
I’m really lost here; thanks for any help.

  • Hi tourboy,

You need to import the demo content for the chosen theme in order to have it look like the demo version.

Thanks for replying so quickly, JovanaV; very helpful! (After searching for two weeks how to download “content” rather than the bare theme I’d never seen a single reference to “import.”)

Problem is, to import demo content you need to know what files are involved and where to access them. Theme distributors, ‘specially free ones, don’t provide either piece of information.
