There are many dodgy sites out there and not all things are equal regarding themes… Just for troubleshooting purposes, try themes from https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/ instead.

Those themes ought to work w/o any issues and if that’s the case then it’s the themes you’re trying.

If that also doesn’t work then there may be something going on with your installation.
