• I’ve recently changed my wordpress address and site url and it locked me out error 404 etc

I’ve managed to get back on to the wp admin page using filezilla and using backups from my hosting provider although i’ve only replaced the clickandbuild folder I can’t seem to replace the logs (maybe it’s the permissions but unsure and unsure if it may be the cause of my problem)

but my whole theme isn’t loading and I can’t access the widgets on each of the pages

when i go to the wp admin theme page it doesn’t display the images or allow me to customise my current theme it just shows the name/customise buttons etc

When i go on to the page customiser it shows the “edit page” box above the page i’m on.

I discovered that the jetpack plugin makes the website into a simple layout and removes any imagery/layout of wordpress so i’ve currently deactivated it.

I’m not too hot on codes/finding issues or website structures so if you can help, please, step by step it would be much appreciated

    my theme is layoutbuilder (free)

  • How did you change your wordpress address. I assume you need to update the wordpress DB with your new URL. Did you look up how to move a wordpress site to another URL, I am thinking you need up the db. Do you still have access to the wordpress DB and does it look populated etc ?

Could it be as easy to just install another theme and re-install the one i’m using?

I should have known better but I just changed it straight from the dashboard, it’s currently the same url as it was before i changed it.

I’ve updated the version of wordpress to the latest version,

Apologies but do you mean db=dashboard or database?

If database, i still do have access to it through filezilla – if that is that the area with the wp-config/wp-content etc?

I did edit the wp-config file to try to just add my new url but it didn’t help to access the website and admin

And as I used a backup I am assuming that everything there before is back where it was so I would say yes it looks populated

You will have to try explain what is not working, you say the url has not changed but yet you say it has also changed.

I think the root cause of the problem won’t be fixed until you figure out what exactly did you change. How many things do you have on your blog, is it an old install or a new install ?

Normally when people update the url, you need to reconfigure the Database as well, people would connect to the DB and update the URL in the DB, it’s somewhat complex, but there are plugins to help you out.

Maybe you can try rephrase what you did exactly .. you might have to do a new install just to see exactly what you changed, but guess you can reverse whatever you did.
