Theme Customizer not working anymore

  • Some time after the upgrade to WP 4.7 the Theme Customizer stopped working.

    Changes can be made in the Theme Customizer and are shown in the preview. But when I “Save & Publish” then the actual blog does not update to those settings. Re-opening the Theme Customizer shows the old settings again.

    It also looks like as if there is a new entry in the wp_posts table of the type customize_changeset for each time I save the theme options.

    I tried quite a few things already, like disabling all plugins, completely uninstalling the W3C cache plugin, switching to different themes, clearing the browser cache, using a different browser, … nothing helps.

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    Hello @sterndata,

    Did you even ready my post? If so, then you would have read that I already did all of that. It is not a theme issue and neither a plugin issue. So yes, I already have tried turning it off and on again!

    OK, then let’s look at one other thing. The customize is a LOT of javascript.

    (1) do you see any errors in your browser console?
    (2) disable all browser extensions, plugins, etc and see if the problem goes away.

    As you say you’ve tried a different browser, let’s focus on #1. If you’re using Chrome, press F12 for the developer tools panel and look for an error indicator when on the customizer.

    I did try with Firefox now. Which works with other WP installations. The console for opening the theme customizer, making a few changes and saving/publishing gives:
