Theme Editor Broke: White Screen

  • I have been attempting to get a design going with the 2022 theme. There are no plugins activated. None, zero.
    How it Happened:
    1. I decided to change my “front page” from the Page (Large Header) page template to “Default template”.
    2. Now the site editor wont load anything at all. It’s just a white screen.
    3. I put the page template back to the one that had been working “Page (Large Header)”. That did not restore the site editor.

    The only other activity I had been doing was in the minutes before I’d tried the default template, when; I had been attempting to create a custom header template called “Minimum Header”. It was based on the “Blank” template. I didn’t like the aesthetics I had been producing so, I decided to go back to the Page (Large Header) via the WP Admin All Pages page. Then I clicked into the editor and… Nothing… “cloud cover”. White a sheet fresh from the bleacher — That was the expression on my face, and the site editor display too.

    All of these things were point and click in the editor (except changing homepage template which was in the usual WP admin interface). I did no coding.

    Two other things to notice:
    The “Minimum Header” template I created doesn’t seem to have saved properly. I say this because when I set it as the template for a page How To Complete A Project, the page loads with what appears to be the Page (Header Small) template minus the bird which I’d previously deleted. It is not my new Minimum Header template. If I go to edit this page: https://completeaproject.com/display/wp-admin/post.php?post=87&action=edit I get the following

    “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.”

    I get the same error when attempting to create a new page or post.

    How now brown cow? I have no site :'[
    Likely not a files problem because there was no FTP connection or file editing unless the editor system does that. ˉ\_(ツ)_/ˉ
    Can editor function be reset in WP admin?
    Database corrupted by the editor system? — I can only guess this is what’s happened.

    Strange Update: Today, I tried again to go to the site editor. First thing, IT LOADS! One time. I saw the sight editor again with my own eyes. Then, I clicked to try and edit the page, make new page, make new post, but none of those worked. So I tried site editor a second time… nothing but white space, it loaded once, and then it was “cloud cover” all day.

    It’s almost like…. the server got stuck in processing loop.

    Another day. The site editor displayed until I left it to go to the manage reusable blocks screen. After I tried to edit it, the site editor did not come up again. White screen is all it shows again. I’ll try again tomorrow I guess, to see if the page editor comes up.
