Theme Editor doesn’t work anymore

  • Since wordpress version 4.9 i can’t use the theme/plugin editor anymore.
    There seemes to be a timeout when it tries to check the syntax.

    The “Health Ceck”-Plugin identifies download-manager as the reason
    Here is the ackording notification:

    Testing download-manager: The loopback request to your site took too long to complete, this may prevent WP_Cron from working, along with theme and plugin editors.

    Actually, never heard of any such thing from any other user, we could understand it clearly if we can check it in your site, if that is ok with you, please post here: https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/support/forum/download-manager-free/

    I just set up a test page. Completely empty, just installed Download Manager.
    As soon as I activate the plugin, I can’t edit PHP files with the inbuild editor of wordpress anymore.
    Unable to communicate back with site to check for fatal errors, so the PHP change was reverted. You will need to upload your PHP file change by some other means, such as by using SFTP.
    Since I have this problem on two other sites, I think you should be able to replicate it.

    Okay, we shall check the issue. However, editing php file from wp plugin/theme code editor is not a good practice.

    Hi, i get the same issue when using your plugin, as soon as it is disabled the editor works.

    And, yes it is not a good practice to edit theme and plugins directly but sometimes that is needed to get things working.

    So a fix for this would be nice. ??

    Hi, I also got the same issue.
    After installing this plugin, I’m not able to edit my theme template and style files(Appearance -> Editor). After deactivating the plugin file editing is working.
    Please provide a fix.
