[Theme: Evolve] Different Layout on Different Pages

I’ve been trying to change the layout on particular pages, but am having limited success. I’ve gotten the sidebars to only show up on the pages I want, but I cannot figure out what to change in the php files to affect the layout. On the About VMA page, for instance, I would like to have the 1 column (1c) layout but it is still formated for 3c like the rest of the site. %evolve_layout seems like a good candidate, but none of the changes I have made to it seem to have any effect, so it is likely getting called somewhere else.

I know there is a way to create and upload php files to serve as templates for specific pages, but I am unsure how to do that and unsure what I would change to affect the layout on that specific page when I did upload the php file. Any help would be appreciated. ??
