• Dear WordPress Team
We are working on 4.0 wordpress & facing an issue of content under Themes folders getting deleted automatically. Our website is hosted at https://test.honda2wheelersindia.com/

We have multiple wordpress instances inside main website. Once we upload the files after few hours following happens:
    1. Under /public_html/wp-content themes folder data gets deleted
    2. A new folder Themes_backup gets created under /public_html/wp-content/themes_backup with a .zip file & .htaccess with deny from all statement.

After this our website goes down & we seek your support.

We are running on linux server ( CentOS & Cpanel). Sitelock is installed with smart scan on. So far it shows no malware in the site.

Advice how should we stop this compromise.

    Regards
    Yogesh Huja

Perhaps you’re not facing a malware but a cronjob that someone wrote.

    Just a guess.

I posted this on the above link too.

Nope. I did try everything I could think of but still cant find what is causing the auto delete. Sometimes it can take a few days and sometimes a few hours. My main suspect is my Nextgen gallery plug in (everybody is telling me it’s not WordPress that deletes the directory) but I couldn’t find any line or command that would do it yet. Now I’m thinking of redoing the site all together but the problem is I can’t. I need the Nextgen… In short – no solution yet ?? Also a Linux dedicated server.

And I also checked my server and it’s completely clear of any malware and there are no cronjobs (no scheduled tasks)or anything like that. It just deletes itself and that’s it.

    Hi.

We’re in the same boat with another templatemonster Cherry theme, 52569. We’re confident it’s caused by Cherry’s backup function. We can tell because, just before the theme gets deleted, cherry creates a bunch of .zip files in the backup area.

This is similar to another Cherry problem we’ve had where the themes folder reverts to a backup automatically. We haven’t been able to conclusively solve the related problem or this one.

I’ve tried contacting TemplateMonster but all they ever do is deny deny deny. Sad.

Not sure what we’ll do. Client’s site goes live this week and they will not be amused when it inevitably fails.

Guys seems we can go this way & ensure cherry framework doesn’t mingles with your website.

Turn off auto-update feature of Cherry Framework.
Go to open the CherryFramework / admin / data_management / data_management_interface.php file and comment this line:

    include_once (PARENT_DIR . ‘/admin/data_management/update.php’);

Use this & let me know if your issues are fixed. The only draw backs are you will not get updates from cherry guys but its worth living this way rather than a down website.

If template monster detects the theme has not been paid for on a domain OR a template demo is being used outside of their tos they can automatically delete the them from you WordPress install without notice FYI.

I am not saying that is what these issues are, but it is worthy to mention that hear just in case . . .

Be sure you theme from them is paid for in full, registered via their process, and don’t use demo themes outside of their tos.

Will that clear up all instances of this annoying issue? Likely not, but maybe it will help some folk!

    ??
