• Because it’s difficult enough having to explain it, I’ve gone ahead and modified the default (Kubrick 1.5) theme to provide a sidebar at all times:

    https://guff.szub.net/wp-content/default_allsidebar.zip

To use, unzip to the directory/folder “default_allsidebar”, upload this to your wp-content/themes/ directory on your blog’s site, and select “WP Default – AllSidebar Edition” under Presentation in WordPress.

    Changes:

    * Templates previously single-column reset to the ‘narrowcolumn’ id.
    * <?php get_sidebar(); ?> added to those templates which lacked it.
    * Reference in header.php to kubrickbgwide.jpg removed.
    * A tiny bit of cleanup, clarification of comments.

I also slipped in the get_calendar() template tag, though it is commented out; to display it, remove the html comments from around it in sidebar.php.

Note: If this steps on any toes, so be it.

UPDATE: For those who want to display links and login info in your sidebar at all times as well, I’ve separately made available a modified version of this:

    https://guff.szub.net/wp-content/kubrick_sidebar.zip

Extract sidebar.php from the zip and replace your current one (either in default or default_allsidebar) with it.

  • I just switched the single.php file and it seems to work as the package says.

    Kudos Kafkaesqui!

Nice work, exactly what I was after ??

Will the All sidebar edition work with 2.02 and widget sidebar?

    Nice work.

I’ve been trying to do this myself and it is tricky getting all the pages to include the sidebar. For most people who just want a blog, the idea of altering php and suchlike is a no go. Therefore this theme will become standard as most people do want the sidebar on all pages.

There is some tricky Css there also, which controls different divs and spans which come up as each various page template is shown.

The only way to get it right is to view each different wordpress page template online, then copy the source and alter the css url to point to the actual css file so you can work with it in your web editing software.

I applaud anyone who takes the time to alter WordPress and I’m sure this theme will become a standard and likely sold on certain websites for $700 after someone has messed with the graphics.

    I’ll bookmark this thread.

This is a great theme, thanks so much I just changed over to this theme so I will have the sidebar on all pages.

One quick question though, when I view the archive links to see past posts it just posts a brief summary and link to go to the article itself. How can I get the archives to display in full? This is the default option for the original Kubrick theme and I would like to have it display the same for this new modified Kubrick theme. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Thank you for the sidebar help, it now shows on all the pages.

    Hello !

I seem to be asking all the wrong questions on this forum, by the looks of it, so I hope I’m doing the right thing by asking this question here. ??

I downloaded your theme (Kubrick allsidebar), and I’ve noticed that somehow, the line height isn’t the same on the main page and on the single article page. How can I change this to the line height is the same everywhere ?

    Thanks !

Be it the line height of the text, or the height of some line, it will be the Css that offers hope there.

I’ve not used this theme as I’ve been trying to do the same myself, inasmuch as making the sidebar (two in this case) appear on all pages.

I’ll put up a test page and link soon, but the main difficulty I found was that WordPress does have a lot of different sized fonts here and there.

WordPress is great for dipping your toes in php, and to ‘copy and paste’ glory as you move bits of that php code and see it work.

Well, I’ve look at the CSS, but I can’t figure out where the information is that makes the line height in the text (not in the sidebar, in the main body of the article) different on the main index page and on the single article page…

The problem I am having, which this mod didn’t resolve, is that when viewing a single post, or a archive page, it is punching my footer to the right. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is making it do this.
    footer works here:

    but not here:

WILL THE ALL SIDEBAR EDITION WORK WITH 2.02 AND WIDGET SIDEBAR? Sorry for shouting but I was ignored earlier.

    yes double that qns.
does it work for widget sidebar?

if it does, is it necessary to upload all the files as i’ve made some changes to the kubrick files too?

I’ve created a modified All Sidebar Theme from the latest Kubrick template that does support Sidebar Widget.

For those who are interested, you can find it by going HERE

Note: This template also addresses the Post word spacing problem and includes an optional cleaner modified personal header.

    Lancelhoff:

I installed your kubrick all sidebar with widgets but the widget thingy is not showing on the dashboard toolbar. Any ideas?

    I assume you’ve …

    Selected theme
    activated widget in ‘plugins’
and checked ‘presentation’ for ‘sidebar widget’.
