• Hello,

my agency’s website is built with wordpress using Dante theme. Now we would like to switch to Jupiter theme, so the questions are:

    1. can I install the new theme and working on it for our new website while the old one remains online as it is now (so, basically: can I have two themes installed on the same domain?)
    2. How do I migrate to new website once it’s ready?

    Thank you in advance.
    Alessandro

  • Hey there Alessandro,

    Hope you’re well today!

You can have as many themes installed on your WP installation as you like. However, once you activate the new theme the site design will change but all your content will remain (posts, pages, media etc). Note that if Dante theme has different custom post types then Jupiter theme you’ll not be able to see posts from those custom post types, they will be there if you activate Dante theme.

If you want to keep your old site up and running you’ll have to create a new WP installation with new theme activated.

If you’re talking about migrating site from one domain to another you can check this blog posts:

    Hope this helps ??

    Hi Bojan,
thank you for your kind and quick reply.

    1. Can I create a new WP installation within the same domain to work with Jupiter theme until the site is ready to go online?

    2. with migration I meant “switching from my old site to the new one, keeping the same domain”. I’ll try to explain better: the domain will be the same, but the new website, built using Jupiter, will also have brand new content. I don’t want to change theme keeping the same content: I want to change content too (both text and images).

Is it possible to do that?

    Hey again Alessandro,

You can easily add another WP installation within the same domain to work with Jupiter theme if you put the new installation in the root folder of the current one. The URL of the new installation will be yourOldSite.com/newSite.

The answer to the second question you can find in the link I provided under Moving a WordPress Site from a Subdirectory to the Root.

    Hope this helps ??

    Cheers,
    Bojan
