Theme not being applied

  • I have SS working somewhat, but the theme 2017 is not being applied.

    Is this perhaps something to do with rewrite rules in .htaccess?

    As background, I had one single site WP instance working, and attempted to make it multisite. This ran into issues. I
    – backed up all of /var/www/html/
    – created /var/www/html/wwpp/ and installed WP there
    – selected the theme 2017, which appears on the local, dynamic version of the site
    – installed and activated Simply Static (the only plugin installed right now)

    I have
    – run Generate, ensuring that the output directory is writeable by WP
    – copied the contents generated to another directory with git initialized
    – pushed the generated content to github.com/thoriumnext/thoriumnext.github.io

    The content appears, but as plain text, with no theme applied.

    Why might themes be ignored?
    I have researched WP support and the web in the large.
