I have been using Twenty Twelve for several years. I don’t change or update it often and it’s been working fine. Within the last two days or so it no longer displays correctly. What is a background for one picture on a sub-page is showing as the background color for everything, making it unreadable. This only happens when BlueHost loads it. When I look at it in WordPress (where I would customize it) it displays fine. I contacted BlueHost who said that there was a problem with the theme and that it wasn’t loading correctly (they then switched me to a different theme). As I said, I hadn ‘t updated the theme in quite some time and so I updated it this morning (after the problem was noticed) and this made no difference. Sounds to me like BlueHost messed up some file that Twenty Twelve has a dependency on. They are currently restoring my setup (which I don’t expect to help since it hasn’t been updated in months).

When someone is willing to look at this I will change my webpage back to this theme temporarily. Thanks for any insights.

  • Please show the link to the affected page so that you can have a look at it.

One more question: which PHP version is currently used by the hosting?

I have switched to having Twenty Twelve be the active theme. You can see it at https://www.CraftinDeApps.com . The PHP version is 8.1.14. I have a picture of what the page has always looked like (black on white with an ocean background behind the white center area) but don’t see a way to attach a picture here. Thanks.

This should be a link to the “normal” picture.

The problem has to do with your hosting. You use this strange URL as the URL of your website:

    https://box5351.temp.domains

The SSL certificate stored for it is not valid. You would need to contact Bluehost support again to get this resolved. Ideally, your website should run under your domain and not this strange URL. But Bluehost would have to clarify that for you.

Yeah, that would be nice, but that’s not what they offer at a cheap price. I think I’d have to pay for a dedicated server to get that. Also…it’s always been this way. Perhaps the certificate just expired. I will check on that. But why would the validity of the certificate affect how the theme loads/displays? The twenty twenty-one theme they switched me to seems to load ok (but won’t access the items in the menu I notice).

Call the domain as I wrote so above in a private browser window. You will get a SSL warning that prevents anything from loading. Therefore no styles will be loaded from your theme. No browser will load content from a URL with an invalid SSL certificate.

I don’t know the offers of your hoster, but maybe you should change and/or invest a few Euros. Many hosters offer a LetsEncrypt certificate for free.

Thank you very much! I will address this with BlueHost.

@threadi Thanks for helping diagnose this one. ??

@barrydorfman I’ll mark this as resolved since the issue is not theme-related. Feel free to start a new thread if you need help with something else.
