• Hello all, I apologize in advance because I know this is a question that’s been asked several times before. I just haven’t been able to find a solution.

I’m working with a child theme of Twenty Seventeen, and when I select “Customize” the Theme Options menu tab is missing. I’ve tried the following to solve the issue:

    • Double check functions.php file to make sure it’s all good.
    • Make sure everything in my child style.css is correct.
    • In “Customize”, made sure that I’m displaying a static page, with a set homepage and a posts page.
    • Deactivated all plugins
    • Switched to the parent theme, to see if Theme Options shows up (it doesn’t)

Here are the pastebin links so you can reference my child theme files:

    Thank you in advance!!!

  • I posted a similar query about six months ago. Recently I started revisiting the issue because for the last week or so my Theme Options returned and then disappeared again. Using the Health Check plugin I have determined that the culprit is, at least in my case, “WP Mailto Links – Manage Email Links”. If it is deactivated and reactivated the software defaults the “Protect plain emails” and Theme Options reappears on the Customizer. When I change that option to “Yes convert plain emails…” and save the Theme Options will no longer appear on the Customizer menu. This makes no sense and I really suspect there is some other conflict, but in my case I can replicate. FWIW
