I know there are many posts about WordPress themes not behaving properly and I have read a lot of them, but none seem to provide the answer. I am using Photology, which is a nice theme, but it seems to have a mind of its own. When I make style changes, they revert to default settings randomly and fonts change. colours change, text disappears and many more things besides. I am an experienced WordPress user but I am not trying customize the theme with any extra code. I am just trying to use the bog standard controls – which are difficult to find and not very intuitive.

I hope someone can give me a good answer to why this is happening as it’s driving me mad. I have cleared the cache several times already but some changes don’t take effect and some do, but then revert on their own.

My site is hosted by Bluehost and I have several other sites that are working fine.

I don’t see a useful answer in that post. I do save every time I make a change, sometimes twice. Nothing changes most of the time and, if it does, it reverts somehow later. As I said, I am an experienced WP user and I find navigating the dashboard for this theme very frustrating. Too many places to edit/change stuff and it’s hard to know which one to use. Then, when I find something that should work, it does nothing.

    Hello @dfuller52,
I am not disregarding your experience with WordPress. I want to assist you in finding the root of the problem.
Can you provide us with your gutenverse system setting?
Our theme is edited through Appearance > Editor > Template.
If you want to edit an already provided page like Front Page. You need to edit it through there.

If you want to edit the template that is used for the page you need to edit Page Template. In the page editor, you only need to add the content. It is the same as the posts. For the post, you need to change it from Single Post Template.

If you want to use your custom template, then you need to change the template from “Quick Edit”. You can find it on the pages/posts list. Then change it from default to your custom template. If you use default it will use Pages Template for page and Single Post Template for post.

From my experience what causing the problem is mostly because of wordpress hierarchy.
Here is the explanation of that https://developer.www.ads-software.com/themes/basics/template-hierarchy/

The other is the PHP Memory Limit. If your PHP memory limit is below the requirement, please upgrade it to the recommended settings.

If you are certain none of those causing the problem then you need to check your wordpress error log. There might be a clue what causing the problem.
