@trllc It seems like WordPress is not able to make a connection back to itself to check if the PHP edit caused an error. It seems this request is timing out, and because of that, the change gets reverted. Is your site behind a proxy or some authentication scheme that would make it difficult to connect back to itself?

Please don’t post in the Alpha/Beta forum unless you’re actually testing the alpha/beta version of WordPress (not a plugin or a theme). Also, once WordPress has released a version, it’s not appropriate to post in alpha/beta and you should post in the Fixing WordPress forum:

Also, who is your hosting service? We may be able to ask them about issues with loopback connections. This seems to be a problem with specific services.
