[Theme: Resonar] Changing the information shown above posts (date/author ect..)

Sorry I am very new to css so might not be making any sense.

I am trying to work out how to change the information shown above the post previews on the home page, and also above the main content on a post page.

At the moment it is showing just the date. For the post preview (on home page) i would like to display ‘Date | Genre’ (The genre category is set up as a custom taxonomy).

And for the the post pages I would like to show:
Date | Genre
Published by Author

From some googling I keep on coming across the word meta fields but I don’t properly understand what this is? Is it related?

Unfortunately I am working in mamp so cannot send a url. I could send screen shots if needed.
