• On selected pages of my Splendio-themed site, I have specified the format “one column, no sidebar.” This instruction is being ignored on all pages where I’ve used it. It just always uses the default format. Does anyone has a thought as to how to fix that?

Secondly, on those pages where I do want to display the sidebar, I’m using a menu of my static pages in the “Sidebar Widget Area”. But I’m not getting any hierarchical indenting in the menu, as I did in my prototype using this theme on wordpress.com. I should have a 2-level hierarchy, based on the “Parent” and “Order” parameters. It’s all just a uniform list, which is tough to read.

    Help? Thanks.

  • Sorry but your chosen theme is not released under GPL. Non GPL products are not welcome in the WordPress community. Official WordPress policy states that all plugins and themes that are publicly released are required to adhere to https://www.ads-software.com/about/gpl/

Any support requests for non-GPL products are usually ignored, in the interests of supporting the community and its freedoms.

I spent an hour this evening reading about these licensing issues during a time that I can ill afford it, in response to your post. While I now have some understanding of the divergences in the licensing standards (I’m not an IP attorney), I don’t understand why you would post such an ungracious response to ~my~ request for support, which would be much better directed to said author of this popular WordPress/Drupal theme. For my part, I have sent a rather lengthy inquiry on this to the author of the theme, asking for some word on the choice of licensing, vis a vis what wordpress seems to mandate.

Regardless, I am a user, and a relatively new one at that, and I’m in need of help, so I came to the place I thought most likely to give it. If this is the kind of response one can expect to receive to bona-fide requests for support, I won’t forget it. Perhaps the wordpress community is not such a forward-looking place after all.

I should point out however that regarding the GPL issue, WordPress more or less defers to Drupal’s faq on the subject, as they are both issued under the same licensing agreement. It is interesting to note, therefore, that Splendio, and support for it, is available through drupal.org. The listing for it at https://drupal.org/project/splendio says it is “Drupal standards compliant.”

All that being said, my need remains. My job responsibility is to deliver this website, and I’m having the difficulty I outlined. I hope that someone here will be generous enough to spare a dime to someone of a different religion.

    Thank you.

Your chosen theme is licensed under a Creative Commons license. This license is not compatible with GPL. If you opt to use a GPL theme instead, we would be glad to help you. Otherwise, all I can suggest is that you contact the theme’s developer for support.
