Theme still trying to load a font from google server

  • Hi there,

    `I installed OMGF on my website a long time ago and never had any problems. Now it seems that Google has removed the Open Sans Condensed font, which was used by my theme.

    All other fonts are recognized by the plugin and loaded locally. Only for Open Sans Condensed it still tries to connect to the Google server.

    Is there any way to break this connection within the plugin?
    I use the free version.

    Hi!

    Open Sans Condensed is a so-called Variable Font. Variable Fonts are not (yet) supported by OMGF.

    You’re not the first to come to me with this issue, though. So, I’ll try and add some form of support in the coming week.

    Hi again Marco,

    This beta includes basic support for Variable Fonts. I still have a looong way to go for it to support it fully, but this version should at least get you what you want to achieve.

    Hello Daan,

    thank you very much for your efforts.
    The connection to the Google server is now broken. But unfortunately the frontend of the page now appears in standard font (I think it is Arial).

    I have the official version of the plugin active again for now. Would be very happy if you can get the problem under control with future releases.

    I’m working on a new release which’ll fully support variable fonts. That should take care of your issue.

    I’m hoping to release it somewhere the coming week.

    Hi Daan,

    unfortunately, it still does not work as desired.

    The contact to Google servers is prevented, but the Open sans condensed font is still not rendered correctly. Instead, the browser inserts a default font, probably Arial.

    Hm. That’s weird. Please enable Test Mode, so the changes aren’t visible to your users and I’ll do some testing for you later today.

    I transferred the site to a test domain and everything worked fine there.

    I will now look again on the live site, where the problem lies and report in the next 2-3 days again.

    I’m a little busy at the moment, which is why I need some time.

    Hi Daan,

    sorry for the delay.

    I followed the instructions you shared above. Unfortunately the problem is not related to permalinks.

    I have reset the plugin on the live site back to version 5.2.0.

    On the test domain it runs in version 5.3.4 and there I have no problems:

    I don’t know what to do with that at the moment.
