• For some reason the Twenty Eleven theme will display a blank gray home page.
Its only on that theme, Ive been able to try other themes with no issue.
I viewed the browser source and this was the very last line:
    <body
    With no ending >
So I checked the theme files and this was the body line:
    <body <?php body_class(); ?>>
If I changed it to just <body> The home page will appear a little more such as the nav, but the content is not there.
    Any suggestions?
I tried re-installing, all files were given 777 permissions.

    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Upload a fresh copy of the theme using FTP.

Its not the default theme. The default theme is “WordPress Default” And its a theme I had to download and uploaded using ftp.

Besides I can always re-download the theme after I edit it.

Sorry – my bad Didn’t realise that you were still using WordPress 3.0.4. The default theme for that version is Twenty Ten – not the old Kubrick default theme, May I ask why you’re still using 3.0.4? You could be taking an awful risk with your site & hackers. Added to which, Twenty Eleven is not compatible with 3.0.4 as far as I can recall. Only 3.2 and above.

No prob, I didn’t know the theme was not compatible with 3.0.4. strange though because I always thought it would not install if they were not compatible. When I saw the broken body tag I just thought it might have been a typo or something.

Twenty ten may have been the default for 3.0.4, but Ive had this wordpress running since v2. I was using a different theme other than the default also.

As far as the version, the upgrade to the latest was also on my list for the site. But it looks like Ill be doing that next.

    Thanks,
    Josh

I didn’t know the theme was not compatible with 3.0.4.

3.2 introduced a lot of new theme features – all of which were built into the new default theme. As with plugins, there is no compatibility check carried out when you install a new theme. It’s assumed that you will preview the theme first via Appearance -> Themes and quickly spot any major problems before activating it. I can’t recall exactly what additional theme functionality was introduced between 3.0 and 3.2 (quite a bit, I think). In theory, the theme might check for the presence of critical functions before calling them but that check not may extend as far back as two full versions ago.
