[Theme: Twenty Eleven] Main navigation or menu in the header

Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes. Once your child theme is active, we should be able to help with the customisation.

Thank you for the great advice. Actually, I have already created a child theme as you advised. However, forgot to mention it in the post.

Actually, due to design issues, I want to run some static pages separate from the WP blog. However, when a visitor clicks on the blog link in the main navigation of the site, the blog should show the same navigation as on the static pages. I am not sure where to insert the navigation links on the blog and how?

How about creating a custom menu via WP and then adding links to these pages using the Custom Url option?

Thanks for being patient and shame on me. I tried to add custom menus. But the main nav bar disappeared and I could not see any custom menus which I had created. How strange???

That sounds like you haven’t actually saved any of your custom menus properly.

However, I have a question which may be unrelated to what my original question has been. If I want a complete flexibility on the design of a site, is it a MUST for me to have separate static pages and then add WP blog to the rostrum?

No – you can create static Pages within WordPress and customise them individually using custom page templates & CSS.

No problem ?? If it helps at all, there are an increasing number of WordPress sites out there that are pretty much Page-based. Some do not even have any obvious blog functionality at all. So this should all be do-able via WP.

sorry to harass you again. While trying to make sense of the links between static pages and blog, I am getting the following message.
