• I always seem to have a problem with the width of my themes and since I’m creating a new one for next month, what would you reckon be a good size? I use a MacBook Pro so my screen looks like that of a DVD portable player.

Right now I try to make everything to fit on a screen that goes to 600 pixels (example at https://www.qforquack.com/) but people still say that it doesn’t quite fit on their screen.

What I’m asking is what width can I use that will be suitable for both widescreen and regular monitor users?

  • Rather than setting the theme as a fixed width, i.e. 800px or similar, set it to a percentage instead.

The hard part is when you are using set images as part of your theme design, but there are many work-arounds.

Which would be what? I want something that doesn’t kill my validation or make iPhone/iPod Touch users unable to see my site.

Choose an image structure that is flexible enough to accommodate different screen sizes. Any that can be repeated are fine but those that are set in stone make it much more difficult.

For some examples of fluid compared to fixed, take a look through the themes at htp://themes.wordpress.net
