• I downloaded a theme and it stated the following:
    Chmod the scripts folder inside wp-content/themes/fotofolio into world writeable 777. For several webhosting services, chmod 777 is not allowed for security reason and if does, your picture will not show up.

    The theme is for photos. I don’t know why 777 is needed to allow the display of photos. Doesn’t 777 open up your site to a security breach? If so, why would any theme suggest using it.

    It’s possible that one of the scripts of the theme expects to be able to write files into its own directory.

    Yes, that is a bad security practice, and I would recommend against it.
