Themes directory keeps auto deleting
-
This is my problem: my themes directory keeps deleting itself – some wordpress php is deleting it but I just can’t figure out which one. I only have 2 themes and I did all I could (fresh clean install, properly installed everything). Everything is working perfectly but every few days the Themes directory deletes itself. I used file audit on my server to find out what is going on but still cant find what’s erasing it. Anyone had similar problem?
Thnx

Have you asked your host?
This is nothing WordPress is doing.
Well actually it seems it does. I did call my host and we started the file audit on themes directory. Sure enough it was deleted again and we went through the log files. It is some php application on the domain that is deleting it. I am going through all php’s trying to find any line or command (delete, unset, unlink etc) which could mess up things but just cant find it yet. It’s not hacked or anything (the domain is not public, it’s under pass and the only one accessing it is me – I checked it out). That is why I ask if anyone had similar issues – to narrow the search. I’ll find out what it is eventually.
Which theme are you using? Are you using a child theme after fresh install?
Is the entire theme folder getting deleted?
Jon is right,WordPress doesn’t remove theme folders in any way.
Can you give specific details of how and which theme you are installing?Ah well I thought that it miht be the child theme, but still cant find what is it. Yes – the whole themes folder deletes. I only use (apart from what comes with wordpress) cherryframework and child theme45028 (it’s a tatoo theme that I bought a while a go dont know if there is another name for it) and nextgen-gallery plugin and that’s it. I tried all kinds of install including manual. The last one was through wordpress normally. I install cherry, update it – then theme and plug in. I also tried wp 3.8, 3.9 and old version of cherry (for which the theme was actually made) and the folder gets deleted any way… other than that everything else works perfectly in any combination and no matter how I install it… I’m completely confused… The only thing I havent examined so far is that something else on the server can access and delete it. But according to my hosts support that’s not the case… The domain is on my server which hosts some other sites of mine but there is no other wordpress installation…
Okay,At what point does the folder get deleted? After installing the framework,or the theme or after a plugin.Seems like a compatibility issue with one of the plugins you might be using.
Does the screen go blank? Does the delete happen instantaneously or after you’ve logged out?
Again,it looks like the plugin(s) you install are not compatible with Cherry Framework.
If you still have the problem, mention the point at which it occurs and the plugins you are installing.
Well I’m going through that right now. The only plug in used is nextgen-gallery and that’s it. It doesn’t happen right away. As I said everything works fine sometimes for 10 hours and sometimes for 2 days and then it just deletes itself… Can’t find anything wrong with the plug in for now. I just cant figure it out. There is no warning, no blank screen – the dashboard works fine. There is no error message or anything. Just themes folder is not there anymore. It’s just driving me crazy… Gonna make another wordpress install on another domain and make the same thing using different theme under cherry and nextgen gallery to see what happens then.
Dear Lakimaker
Did you got a fix for this as we are also facing same issue. I reported this at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/theme-folder-getting-deleted-automatically?replies=1
Even we are using cherryframework 3.0.1 & WordPress 4.0 . Everything works fine sometimes for 10 hours and sometimes for 2 days and then it just deletes itself….
After that we start getting Error:
Warning: require(includes/custom-function.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/zzzz/zzzz.com/wp-content/themes/cherryframework/functions.php on line 409Pls advice
Nope. I did try everything I could think of but still cant find what is causing the auto delete. Sometimes it can take a few days and sometimes a few hours. My main suspect is my Nextgen gallery plug in (everybody is telling me it’s not WordPress that deletes the directory) but I couldn’t find any line or command that would do it yet. Now I’m thinking of redoing the site all together but the problem is I can’t. I need the Nextgen… In short – no solution yet ?? Also a Linux dedicated server.
After a bit of research i am assuming that wordpress, cherryframe work & plugins have some issue. What is wrong i don’t know . As we are using Moto Press Content Editor & laki is using Nextgen .
Issue of only theme folder getting deleted is strange.
Keep a track of compatibility issue https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wordpress-41-incompatibility?replies=17
This needs an urgent fix else loads of efforts will go waste of many developers. Is this a cron or malware or somewhat else.
Regards
Yogesh HujaI’ve just had my first experience with this.
I’m using Cherry Framework and theme52551 purchased from templatemonster… I was made aware the site was displaying a white screen, i logged in to the dashboard and all was ok aside from themes all being gone. I had to create a new themes folder and reinstall cherry and the theme – it also threw my menus out of whack which i had to fix up.It’s the first time this has happened and the site has been live for almost a month. hopefully after re-installing a themes folder, cherry framework and the theme itself it’ll cause no further issues.
As this is a known issue, I’m afraid that i might be faced with an angry client again!! Very interested to hear of any updates or solutions to this issue.
PLEASE HELP US!Has anyone had any movement on this?
It’s now happened a few more times to my website (themes folder gets deleted automatically) …
I really need this site to be reliable for my client.Advice? PLEASE!
Hi.
We’re in the same boat with another templatemonster Cherry theme, 52569. We’re confident it’s caused by Cherry’s backup function. We can tell because, just before the theme gets deleted, cherry creates a bunch of .zip files in the backup area.
This is similar to another Cherry problem we’ve had where the themes folder reverts to a backup automatically. We haven’t been able to conclusively solve the related problem or this one.
I’ve tried contacting TemplateMonster but all they ever do is deny deny deny. Sad.
Not sure what we’ll do. Client’s site goes live this week and they will not be amused when it inevitably fails.
Have you guys thought of dropping Cherry Framework if you’re so convinced it’s that?
There are tons of very reputable Theme Frameworks for WordPress.
Guys seems we can go this way & ensure cherry framework doesn’t mingles with your website.
Turn off auto-update feature of Cherry Framework.
Go to open the CherryFramework / admin / data_management / data_management_interface.php file and comment this line:include_once (PARENT_DIR . ‘/admin/data_management/update.php’);
Use this & let me know if your issues are fixed. The only draw backs are you will not get updates from cherry guys but its worth living this way rather than a down website.
If template monster detects the theme has not been paid for on a domain OR a template demo is being used outside of their tos they can automatically delete the them from you WordPress install without notice FYI.
I am not saying that is what these issues are, but it is worthy to mention that hear just in case . . .
Be sure you theme from them is paid for in full, registered via their process, and don’t use demo themes outside of their tos.
Will that clear up all instances of this annoying issue? Likely not, but maybe it will help some folk!
