I have two questions. I had WP Popular Posts (the widget) installed in and working on my blog built by a developer who Elementor. Well, of course the developer was hit and run, and what was supposed to be a popular post widget was just a featured post widget. Which was not what I wanted but I’m sort of stuck with it now.

I’m semi-knowledgeable with WordPress and should have made my own site, but here I am. I’m trying to install WordPress Popular Posts…

First, somehow I wound up with a rogue post from the widget that appeared not with the regular sidebar display but rather in the middle of the blog posts. I strggled to get rid of it and the only way I could do that was to delete and start over again. But this time when I installed a Pop Post, instead of the five most popular post, I got the rogue post, but where the listing of popular posts should be. How do I clear that and have my proper listing?

Second, I was trying to make my listing prettier and found that I have a choice of themes. However, there’s just a list by name. I thought, fine, I’ll just chose one and see how it looks, and it I don’t like it, I’ll choose another. Except after trying Card and going back to see what else there was, the theme section was greyed out. And now that I uninstalled and reinstalled my list, it’s in the basic no-theme style. How do I fix that?

    Help!

    Hi there,

What do you mean with “rogue post”? Didn’t get that part. If you can share more details (screenshots are welcome too) I may be able to help.

(…) the theme section was greyed out.

It’ll be greyed out until you save the widget once. After that you should be able to select a widget theme. (Or just try reloading the window and see if that fixes it.)

Ah, yes, rogue post. In WordPress Popular Post there is a listing of posts. Well, one of the posts listed (not sure whether it was one of the top five or just one picked out at random), instead of being in the sidebar list was over by itself, among the blog list.

I’m not very fond of Elementor and actually have built two WordPress sites on my own using the current WP system and themes, and working with Elementor, at least in how the developer set it up is surely part of the problem.

As far as the themes, is there a picture of what the themes look like somewhere to I can have an idea of what’s available so I don’t have to test and retest.

Thank you very much for your more than prompt response!

Sounds like something’s broken on your website. You’ll need to do some more debugging (or get another developer to do it for you) to figure out what’s going on.

No, unfortunately no. There’s no preview available anywhere at this time.

You could try using WordPress’ Customizer (that’s the WordPress.com documentation but applies to regular WordPress as well) to switch between different widget themes so you can pick the one that fits the best with your website.

    You’re welcome!

I may just go back to the original site that I made before I go further down the rabbit hole with this “professional” site. They may be too smart for their own good, if you know what I mean.

But thanks for looking into this for me. I’ll give WordPress Popular Posts again, depending on which way I decide to go with this.

    Thanks again.
