Are you talking about themes.wordpress.net? It seems to have been shut down as all URLs are now pointing to the new theme directory here: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/

No, there was another site that had Oh gosh at least a 1000 + themes

I thought it was https://themes.wordpress.com/ but no luck.

Why did themes.wordpress.net get taken down? Anyone know? this new method of themes here now is not nearly as good as the older version

too many concerns with spammed and sponsored themes. the new link is comprised of themes that have been checked for malicious items and work with 2.6
