    Hello everyone,

I all of a sudden have this error that prevents my site from loading:

There has been a critical error on this website.
Learn more about debugging in WordPress.

Note: I don’t know when this started I just noticed it last night.

After some reading and following some troubleshooting tips I came to the following:

If I deactivate a plugin “W3 Total Cache” that above error message disappears but I still get a blank white page.
I checked my email and found that the plug was updated Dec 16 so I rolled it back to a previous version and activated it but that did not help.
I rolled it back even further and further and that did not help either. I then updated it to current version and still no progress. Same result, if I activate it I get the error message, deactivate it and get a blank page.

Am I on the right track or wasting my time?
If I’m on the right track, what else should I do?
If on the wrong track, what other troubleshooting tips do you have for me?

    Thanks

    Edit:

I went back and tried to edit my contact page using Elementor (went to admin, pages and clicked on Edit using Elementor) and got the following error (which I get when trying to edit any page):

  • Hello,

The error message you posted refers to the “Astra” theme you have installed on your website.

You can switch to the latest WordPress default theme to see if the problem disappears.

And do post the error message in Astra theme’s own support forum to bring this to the attention of the theme’s author:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/astra/

    Good luck!

Thanks, I did change to another theme and it worked. I will post on Astra them support.
    Much appreciated.

OK, so how do I not get into this kind of problem anymore.
I need a website like I need a business card, actually not even that. It has very very little effect on my business. Whatever time I am spending trying to fix this is time wasted that I will never ever get back again.
I do not want anything fancy, I need something that is very very unlikely to ever break down. Is there such a thing?

    Thanks

If you never want to wash a dish, don’t cook at home. Drive to the nearest restaurant for every meal.

If you don’t want to ever deal with websites breaking (or taking preventive maintenance measures to ensure they never break, to begin with), then don’t use WordPress or any website software that you host and must maintain yourself.

Get the “restaurant” equivalent of websites: where everything is taken care of for you, and you don’t install or ever have to manage any software. Examples of these are Wix, Squarespace, SiteSell, etc.

WordPress is powerful enough to build anything, from a basic blog to a complete online school or e-commerce website selling millions of $$$ worth of goods. But all that power and flexibility comes with a learning curve and the responsibility of maintenance.

But not everyone needs all that power and flexibility. If you don’t need anything “fancy” as you say, the hosted services listed above should be excellent choices for you.

Often the reason a particular marketing channel (website, PPC, social media, radio, TV, print, etc) doesn’t work is simply that we’ve not put in the right level of effort, expertise, and investment to make it work. This is easily proved if we can find even a single example of someone in the same or related industry who is finding success with the same marketing channel.

Thanks George, I very much appreciate your help. I will look at the options you posted and I believe the Coming Soon page may just be what I’m looking for. One page, done.

It is not a marketing tool; it is a business listing. Similar to the free yellow page listing we get in the yellow/white pages when we activate a business line. If someone already knows the business and just looking for address or contact information, they look in the book; now they can do web search.
It is intentional; that’s what I want.

Ii stand corrected. The only way to not have any problems with a website is not to have one at all.

What a nightmare, wordpress and this site is total garbage.
