• When you get this error:

There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

If you get the email, I know it has a special link you can use to login. But, what is the protocol when you don’t get the email? Is there somewhere in WP that the link is stored? I have access to cPanel and phpMyadmin. I’d like to try the link as the usual tricks so far have failed to give me a login url that works.

Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/

You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins:? https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-the-administrative-menus

So is the short answer no, there is no way to access the link if you don’t receive the email? It isn’t in the database for example. And if it isn’t available, how about adding it as a feature?

I know how to troubleshoot; e.g., to use phpmyadmin to drop tables, turn off plugins and change userIDs and passwords. I also have access to a file manager in cPanel that I have already used to edit the .htaccess file, and read the error_log. So far, no luck with any of that, still a critical error.

So having access to the link would save me a lot of time and possibly solve my problem.

If you don’t have the email, you don’t have a link. So, the steps above will tell you why you get a 500 error.
