There seems to be an extra checkbox with no label

That checkbox is the GDPR consent checkbox. You can disable this by unchecking the “Display the GDPR checkbox” option in the backend settings.

However – this box should also have a text displaying something like “I consent to [name of your site] collecting and storing the data I submit in this form. (Privacy Policy) *” where “(Privacy Policy)” links to your GDPR page if you did not set a custom URL for this. I’ll check if there is a bug and provide an update if needed.

I thought it might have been that, but it isn’t. The GDPR consent checkbox wasn’t selected. If I do select it and add a privacy policy URL then that shows up as yet another checkbox. But I’ve deselected it again.

In this case I am out of clues.

The box itself is clearly some kind of consent checkbox as it is named “ig-es-comment-form-es-consent”:

But as you already realized – that it is not by my plugin. That would name the input element as “cren_gdpr” and not as “ig-es-comment-form-es-consent”.

Maybe some other plugin? WordPress itself and some missing setting?

I see. From the name it sounds like it might be coming from the Email Subscribers plugin. I’ll check with them.

Just for your information, it was in fact an option hanging there from the Email Subscribers plugin. There was a comment consent option with no text set. I never even noticed it before. Thanks for your responsiveness.
