    I mean, if I want to uninstall EcoCoded, I shouldn’t have to mess with the theme editor, should I? Every other theme in the world has a “delete” button– am I missing something?

  • Hi @dmcohen you have to activate another theme, before you can uninstall it. You cannot uninstall an active theme in WordPress, this is not our decision but how WordPress is built.

    Let me me know if that fixes it.

    I would also greatly appreciate if you change this review, since this has nothing to do with our theme, and is only related to WordPress

    Hi @dmcohen
    In order to function, WordPress always needs to have a theme active. Therefore one cannot remove the currently active theme.
    If you want to delete your current theme, then first activate another one. (You may need to install one first.) If you want a theme that is maintained by the same volunteers that make WordPress itself, then use any of the “default” themes “twentyeleven”, “twentytwelve” … “twentytwentyone”.

    You can delete a theme that is not active by hovering over the theme in the theme list and click on “Theme details”. In the pop-up that appears, there will be a link at the bottom to remove the theme files.

    Alternatively, if you have access to your server’s file system (for instance via a file manager from your web host or via FTP), then you can simply delete the directory of the theme and all its files. They’ll normally be located under /wp-content/themes/.

    I appreciate the suggestions– but it looks like something weird(er) is going on. EcoCoded is not the active theme, and it still can’t be deleted. Perhaps this is because a sister theme (BeSustainable) is active? Here’s what I mean.

    I suppose I could delete it via FTP, though now I’m concerned there’s some psychic link between the theme I want to delete and the one I’m using– so I’m reluctant to mess with either.

    Anyway… any ideas?

    @dmcohen yea that’s a child theme for Ecocoded. Besustainble won’t work without Ecocoded sadly

    PS: I should say, I just went to adjust/delete my rating– which, to be transparent, was submitted with a kind of fiery misplaced indignation– but my review had already been deleted. Which, I feel like, is a kind of a questionable pathway to get to the right outcome. Or maybe the real lesson here is my own discovery that I am, by nature, a suspicious person? So I guess there’s a growth opportunity today for everyone.

    @dmcohen
    It was me who hid (not deleted) your review, since I felt that it rather was a support topic (which we already have here). As I wrote in a comment to that review, you can write a new one at any time.
    And yes, I’m sorry that I didn’t mention the specific case that a theme can also be active by being a “parent theme” to the currently active one. Since a child theme only contains the “delta” (additional difference), the parent theme indeed also remains very active.

    Your topic here also brings up another possible improvement: In the list of currently installed themes, when one opens the popup for a currently active theme (or its parent) it would be good to specifically mention that “This theme is currently in use and therefore can’t be deleted”. – Thanks for that lesson!
