• Apparently, Yoast has sold this plugin to some other guy who does not even take the time to explain why and how he gained control over it.

It took me some time to understand how this bullshit plugin has been installed on my website. I realised too late it was by updating the Google Analytics by Yoast plugin. Sorry Chris and Syed, by I trust Yoast and the way you gained control over his plugin does not encourage me to trust you.

We used all resources we could to explain the change.

When you updated the plugin, there was a warning level admin notice that explained that Google Analytics By Yoast is now MonsterInsights, which offered a link to our blog post explaining the transition and future steps. Futhermore, we have notes in the readme about the change.

There’s not much more we could have done in the plugin, because prior to him transferring the plugin to us, we can’t display a notice or something like that in advance.

Furthermore, I’d point out Yoast trusts us completely. That’s part of the reason they let us continue it’s development.

    Quoting from Yoast’s announcement post:

I trust Syed and team will take it to even greater heights.

I want to thank Syed for making this tough decision easier. Knowing that he’ll take care of the plugin and both our free and premium customers really made it easier to decide to do what’s right.

I’m not exactly sure what you wanted us to do differently. Nor do I really understand the title of your review (we don’t advertise it as being by Yoast because as both Yoast and us have pointed out on our blogs, twitter, facebook, and in-plugin, MonsterInsights is the team now developing the plugin).

    Hey Fabien,

we didn’t take this decision lightly. I understand your hesitance, but hope you will bear with the MonsterInsights team, I am certain they won’t disappoint you.

Thanks Yoast and Chris for your answers.

I’ve done the update via WP-cli command line tool, so I did not saw the notice. I checked the readme and did not saw any notice about this ownership change. What do you mean Chris by “we have notes in the readme about the change” ? Just a single line at the beginning of the “description” tab on the plugin page saying that Yoast trusts MonterInsight would have reassured me.

I’ve build a submodule based on this one to enable me to use it in a multi-site network without configuring each site separately : the main site holds the configuration for every other site in the network. What is expecting to change that could break my submodule ? I just used a filter to the option_yst_ga, but this option name might change, no ? I would expect a clear note in readme that says if option name are expecting to change or not.

None of the filters have changed to my knowledge. We have a note about the acquisition in both the readme (it’s in the changelog) as well as a 1 time admin notice.

Most existing users wouldn’t read the description tab of an already installed plugin before updating, if anything, theyd read the changelog as that’s the part where changes are expected to be communicated. That’s why we didn’t put anything there.
