This is the future for WordPress
-
I’ve been testing Gutenberg since ver. 2.0, and so far, all I have to say is nothing but good things about it; started testing with junk posts, now I’m editing a tutorial article and nearing 1,500 words (my posts are around 2k – 7.5k words) and Gutenberg allows me to write almost without using the mouse. There are a couple of things that I would love to have; one of them is a full-fledged table editor block. I suppose somebody is going to do it, but it would be cool if Gutenberg ships with a better table editor…I mean, it’s all visual, and table editing is and has always been a pain…oh and H1 (I know where H1 is in Gutenberg, but most users get confused) and full-text justification should be visible if anyone wants to use those, it’s up to them to do so, I don’t care what UI designers say about it.
I can’t wait to see Gutenberg fully integrated into other areas of WordPress, like the Customizer; that’s when things will get really interesting (and powerful!).
But anyway, I’m, very happy with Gutenberg so far. It’s an improvement, and to the people who don’t like Gutenberg, all I can say is: read some tutorials (it’s pretty fast and easy), then dive into Gutenberg and start writing. I’ll bet that once you know how to do things around in Gutenberg, you’ll be faster than with TinyMCE.
If you DON’T like it that’s OK, say it so, but do it in a fashion that helps the devs. After all, the way I see it, it’s the negative reviews that matter the most. Make ’em count.
P.S. It doesn’t affect my rating or review as Gutenberg is not finished, but after using it in a 5,100-word post, it has shown very obvious performance issues. I’m very positive this is going to change in the future.
P.P.S. Performance is greatly enhanced in v4.0+
P.P.P.S. As of version 4.9.0, Gutenberg feels great!
P.P.P.P.S. As of January 2019, there are 30 million downloads of WordPress 5.0. There is NO such thing as a “majority” of users complaining.
P.P.P.P.P.S. As of January 2020, Gutenberg is better than *ever*.
P.P.P.P.P.P.S. April 2020, WordPress 5.4 comes with the best Gutenberg ever; great performance, blocks are getting more mature, block collections also getting more mature, usability and accessibility are so much better.
