This is the future of translation.
-
In the past, I have used heavy, clunky, complex options… *cough* *WPML* *cough*. For us, it bottle-necked our content production process and slowed down our site. (Disclaimer: this experience was from a few years back).
While complexity may be necessary in certain cases, if you’re looking for a solution that:
– merges the benefits of machine translation with the ability to edit / get professional translations
– is easy to wrap your head around
– is quick to set up
– seems to consume few resources
– is backed by amazing support and fix turnaround timeyou should take a look at Weglot.
Machine language translation is far from perfect (but will only improve with time) – the killer feature here (unlike Google Translate) is having the ability to make edits that make sense to your audience. Not to mention, I’ll take even a roughly translated page any day if it means a) I don’t have to delay pushing out content and b) I can come back and tweak the translation at any time.
Additionally, Weglot tries to be smart by changing similar strings to avoid duplication of work. This hasn’t been 100% for me, but I’m sure it’ll also improve with usage – and any time savings is a good thing!
I’m only 4 days into my trial. After the first day, I ran into a showstopper bug that was going to prevent us from using Weglot on this project. Not only were we presented with a passable workaround – but before I managed to implement the workaround on our dev server, an official fix was pushed out that seems to have addressed the issue.
Bravo!
If only all plugins could have this level of support, especially pre-purchase.
You have a customer for life! There are plenty of options out there for translation. I haven’t tested them all but I have at least scrutinized the websites of “the big names”. Weglot takes an innovative approach to translation at a manageable price point. If you’re in the market for translation, I highly suggest you have a look.
