• As the title states, this is the only plugin that WordPress can’t auto-update for some reason so I always have to do it manually. Is there some sort of fix to this?

  • Hi, @cpkid1!

Probably an obvious question, but worth immediately getting out of the way as I haven’t experienced the same thing in my own sites. Is auto-updating enabled for the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin in your plugins list?

If that’s been enabled, you may want to check on your site’s file/folder permissions in case that may point to why it’s only WooCommerce Shipping & Tax that can’t be auto-updated. Your hosting provider should be able to assist you with that.

Yes, it’s enabled. Also, the permissions are 0755 for the /plugins folder as well as each plugin folder within it.

    Hello @cpkid1,

Are you not seeing any available update notification? Could you please share some more details?

    Thanks!

@sohanhossain I have all of my plugins set on auto-update, but this plugin is the only one that gives me an error. Every time WordPress attempts to update it, it fails and sends me an email saying this:

    These plugins failed to update:
    – WooCommerce Shipping & Tax (from version 1.25.16 to 1.25.17)

Even when I click ‘update’ for this plugin on the Plugins page of the dashboard, it fails. So ultimately, I have to download the plugin manually and install it via FTP.

    Hey there @cpkid1,

Could you confirm if you downloaded the plugin from WooCommerce.com or directly from www.ads-software.com?

If you had downloaded this from WooCommerce.com, you may need to be connected to the WooCommerce.com store on your site for updates
notifications to show up. If this is the case, could you check if you are connected to the WooCommerce.com store?

If you just download this from www.ads-software.com repository, you should be able to see the updates notification.

Look forward to your reply at your earliest.

@simplysaru I downloaded it from www.ads-software.com. My problem isn’t that I’m not seeing the update notifications. My problem is that the updates are giving me errors causing me to update manually via ftp.

    Hey @cpkid1,

    Thanks for the clarification.

The plugin downloads from www.ads-software.com repository and the URL looks like this
https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/woocommerce-services.1.XX.XX.zip and that should work like any other plugins being updated from www.ads-software.com.

The reason why these upgrades would fail is when the URL is being blocked on your server or by website using some firewall rules.

Could you check for any plugins (security-related) on your site or with the server(WebHost can help here) if they have any such firewalls in place for blocking such URLs?

Do keep us posted on how this troubleshooting works out for you.

@simplysaru I have WordFence which has a firewall included, but I haven’t set any special rules for those types of links. Every other plugin I have auto updates except for this one, so I’m not sure if the firewall is the issue.

Do you have other plugins from www.ads-software.com getting updated correctly? If they do, could you share with us a screenshot of the error you see with the automatic updating of WooCommerce shipping & Tax?

    Thread Starter The Shopkeeper

    (@cpkid1)

@simplysaru Yes, every other plugin from www.ads-software.com gets updated automatically except this one. I can try to install an older version of the plugin in order to make that error pop up and get the screenshot. Do you know where I can download an older version?

    @cpkid1

You can download an older version from the advanced view of the plugin page. https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/woocommerce-services/advanced/

Look forward to the error screenshot.

    Hey @cpkid1,

If you’re still experiencing issues updating, please log in to your site via FTP, or via your host’s File Manager, and go to wp-content/plugins/ folder and delete the folder named woocommerce-services. Once that is done, reinstall the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin from WordPress Admin -> Plugins -> Add New.

If this doesn’t help, please follow the guide linked below to fix the files & folder permission on your site:
