This new version of WordPress is a nightmare!!!

Here’s a little video I made earlier today for another user on another thread. Give it a watch.

That video makes it look more complicated.

I think the mere fact you need a video to try to explain how something (that should be as simple and intuitive as a text editor) works says it all…

It mentions “blocks” I have no idea what blocks are, I was taught about words, sentences, paragraphs. But blocks???

It’s the screen. Do you really need a box on the screen to type in your words? Is the lack of a visible rectangle confusing you so much that you forgot how to type?

Yeah, blocks are new. New editor, new concepts. This is how you learn about blocks. They’re going to be very important in the future. So, best to get into the groove slowly.

I don’t need a video. I made that for other people to benefit from, like yourself. So enjoy the video, and learning about blocks.

Please, there is absolutely no need to be condescending. I am just trying to give feedback as that is what this category of the support forum is for.

Will they write differently because of blocks, or are blocks there now because people are about to write differently? This is a serious question, it seems to imply that wordpress wants to dictate how people should write, or at least it can somehow predict how they will want to write.

Right now I’m not aware of needing blocks, but if there are a lot of requests for blocks, then surely that would be the time to implement them.

Clearly, there is such a need, because you said that a video where I spend over 2 minutes doing nothing but making typos on a blank screen is “complicated”.

Umm, yes? What part of this are you not getting?

Blocks are the basic structure here. You build the content out of various blocks. Phase 2 involves making things like your sidebar widgets and the menu areas into blocks as well. So that everything visible on your page is a block. And you move the blocks around to change the look of your page.

This is the direction WordPress is going. So yes, you need to grasp blocks. It’s not a complex thing to grasp.

The new editor does NOT work fine on the iPad. I have no problem with blocks, etc.—-that is how other content management systems I use work. I’ll start another thread with some specific reasons I’ve had to stop editing in WordPress 5 with my iPad.

Totally agree. This new version is awful! This happens so often. You have a good product and someone decides it needs to be upgraded. But makes it worse. Bloated and awful.

So be honest this version is a nightmare. I uploaded a Word document into my “editor” and it has taken me a hour which should only take me a few minutes. Words are connected like thiswordisconnected. (runons).

Sentences missing. Title will not stick. You get an F on this one.

I wish we could downgrade. I will certainly not upgrade any other website.

This is a known issue, actually, which is somewhat specific to pasting from Microsoft Word in particular. Word does some pretty weird stuff in the copy/paste.

That is still being worked on. Word has always given us trouble.

Thank you for the editor fix, my site now maintainable in the old fashioned way. Will have fun now playing with WordPress 5.

One of the big problems that I am having is that I have always, for 12 years with this blog, listed “Categories” or Tags with my blogs. I had a ton of them there and would check them or create new ones and when I publish my posts now at the bottom it always says “File: Uncategorized”??? I click on categories or tags (Now I can’t remember whether it should be categories or tags???) on the side bar when I am creating the posts and the menu, most of the time, doesn’t open up. A couple of times it did but it still did not save the options I chose. I have a long time blog with a loyal following and this is a real problem. HELP!!!!!

Какая жесть. Я вставляю тексты из ворд, уже отформатированные и полностью готовые. Думаю, в самом вордпрессе мало кто пишет – ведь текст десятки раз надо перепроверить в разных сервисах – на уник, на спам, на то-се, а не просто накатать наскоряк в редакторе ВП и опубликовать. Теперь нормально вставить готовый текст невозможно.

Новая редакция сильно усложняет работу с движком, зато скачивание плагинов со старым редактором резко увеличилось. Это о многом говорит. Собственно, обновление только к тому и привело, что приходится добавлять еще один плагин на сайт, чтобы нормально работать с ВП.

Плюс – если бы к неудобнейшему новому редактору я как-то могла бы привыкнуть, то к тому, что исчезла транслитерация ссыылок поста, привыкнуть нельзя. Их теперь вручную переписывать?? Они на кириллице отображаются, несмотря на все настройки и плагины для транслитерации.

I am also having a problem with my post title disappearing over and over as I work and preview with this new WordPress. It does seem to be a glitch. Can you help with this Otto?
